Update begin: The new iPad HD comes in 4G, which is great news for South Florida, were AT&T, Verizon and other carriers have continued to beef up and roll out 4G service.
The goodies: Two versions, 3G and 4G LTE for AT&T and Verizon. High-definition Retina display, with 2048×1536 resolution. HD recording in 1080p. New 5-megapixe camera. Comes in black and white versions, same price as iPad 2 at A5X chip processor. The “X,” says Apple, denotes the quad-core graphics, which will entice South Florida video gamers who like to play on the go, and on an iPad surface. Nine hours of battery life on 4G service, something that could be handy in a storm when power is out but nearby cell phone towers are still operating.
The cost: 3G: 32GB for $599, 64GB for $699. 4G: 32GB for $629, 64GB for $729 and 128GB for $829. Available in South Florida Apple stores (and probably AT&T and Verizon stores) by March 16. Pre-orders begin today.
